Head Coach

Dave Morinville leads the Spuds’ bench for the eleventh consecutive season. He is assisted by Erick Grafstrom and Josh Arnold. Morinville began his coaching career as an assistant Spuds coach in the mid-1970’s. He went on to coach at Fargo North High School and the NDSU club hockey team. He was an assistant coach at St. Cloud State University from 1988-1990. He scouted for The Ottawa Senators from 1990-1992, and served as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Moose for a year. He holds a master’s coaching certificate with USA hockey, a BA from Concordia College and a Masters degree from NDSU. He is married to Mary and has three children, Sara, Jessie, and Megan

Erick Grafstrom
Assistant Coach

Erick rejoins the Spuds after a season away from coaching. Attending school in Roseau, Erick played hockey for the 1980 season before joining the Des Moines Buccaneers for the 1981 season. He then played for the U of M Crookston hockey team for two seasons and transferred to Concordia for a year. He then went on to finish with NDSU's Club team and graduate in 1986 with a degree in Agronomy. Erick played a season in the ECHL with the Mohawk Valley Comets and returned to play with the Warroad Lakers. He began coaching at NDSU with the Club team from 1987-1995. He then coached at Fargo North
High School from 1995-1996 and at Moorhead High School from 2000-2005. Erick is married to Lisa and they have a daughter Ella (4) and are expecting a baby in February.

Josh Arnold
Assistant Coach

Josh is a former Spud playing on the hockey team all four years at Moorhead (90-94) and helping the team to three straight State Hockey Tournament appearances. The team finished 2nd twice in 92 & 94 and third in 93. He then went on to play at UMD for 2 seasons and at Concordia College for 2 seasons before graduating in 1998 with a degree in Business Administration. Josh returned to assist with coaching at Concordia in 1999 and now has joined the Spuds to assist with the varsity team for the first time. He is married to Margo and has two sons, Jack (3) and George (4 months).

Mark Fabian
Assistant Coach

Mark is in his first year with the Spuds in coaching the JV team. He attended school and played hockey in Roseau and was on the varsity team for three seasons, 1997-1999, capturing the Minnesota State
Championship in 1999. His college career was spent at Valley City State University where he played football and baseball, graduating in 2003. Mark then played the 2003 season of pro football in the Nation Football League Italia (Italy) before returning to teach and coach baseball and jv hockey at Lake of the Woods High School in Baudette. Mark became head coach of the Lake of the Woods hockey team for the 2006-2007 season before moving to Moorhead and becoming the biology/forensics teacher at Moorhead High.

Jon Rudnick
Assistant Coach

A former Spud Captain and player 1999-2000, and a MHS 2000 graduate,
Jon Rudnick returns to coach with the JV team this season. Spending two seasons with the Bismarck Bobcats in the NAHL in 2000-2001 & 2001-2002 Jon then moved on and played with the Des Moines Bucaneers of the USHL in 2002-2003. Jon then went on to play a season with Concordia College and graduated in 2007. Jon is married to Katie.
